Mission Description
Job Purpose
To oversee, manage, and optimise the company's road transport operations to ensure safe, cost-effective, compliant, and reliable delivery of cargo across Namibia and cross-border routes. The Transport Manager ensures efficient fleet utilisation, strong operational planning, effective team management, and exceptional service delivery to clients.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Planning & Execution
• Oversee day-to-day road freight operations, dispatch, routing, and scheduling.
• Ensure optimal fleet utilisation and trip planning to maximise productivity.
• Monitor cargo movements, delivery timelines, and ensure adherence to SLAs.
• Manage high-volume transport operations including containers, dry freight, and specialised loads.
Fleet & Asset Management
• Oversee the maintenance schedule, inspections, and roadworthiness of all trucks, trailers, and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with NAMRA, Road Authority, traffic regulations and cross-border requirements.
• Implement preventative maintenance plans in collaboration with the Workshop Manager.
• Monitor fuel usage, tyre usage, and overall cost per kilometre (CPK) performance.
Staff Management
• Supervise and lead Drivers, Fleet Controllers, Dispatchers, and support staff.
• Conduct driver briefings, debriefings, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with driver working hours, fatigue management, and safety standards.
• Recruit, train, and develop operational teams.
Client Service & Relationship Management
• Ensure professional communication with customers on ETAs, delays, and operational issues.
• Resolve service issues quickly to maintain strong customer satisfaction.
• Attend client meetings to review performance, KPIs, and improvement plans.
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
• Enforce safety standards, incident reporting, and accident investigation procedures.
• Ensure all operations meet legal, SHEQ, and transport regulatory requirements.
• Manage cross-border requirements including customs documents, permits, and transit processes.
• Implement risk controls for drivers, loads, and high-risk routes.
Cost, Reporting & Performance Management
• Manage transport budgets, fuel, maintenance, and operational costs.
• Analyse KPIs such as CPK, load efficiency, revenue per truck, on-time delivery, and empty returns.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.
• Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports for management.
Profile
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
• Relevant certifications in fleet management or cross-border operations (advantage).
• 5+ years' experience in road transport management, fleet operations, or logistics.
• Experience managing long-distance, cross-border, or containerised transport advantageous.
• Strong experience leading drivers and operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of road transport regulations (Namibia + SADC).
• Understanding of fleet systems / TMS, tracking platforms, and operational reporting.
• Solid understanding of budgeting, cost control, and operational KPIs.
