Mission description

Job Purpose:

The role will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with transport service providers in South Africa and along the Durban corridor. The primary mission is to establish and maintain a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective subcontracted transport capacity that aligns with operational and commercial needs.

 

Profile

Job Function:

• Support front office and middle office Operations with designing and standardising solutions to meet the service requirements of the front office.
• Optimize transport solutions as per client needs.
• Manage operational relationships with suppliers which include sourcing and negotiation to ensure:
o Establishment of focal point for suppliers.
o Effective management of contracts and limits of liabilities in conjunction with legal.
o Design solutions to guarantee complete and consistent quotations.
o Ensure standardisation of operating procedures with suppliers.
o Ensure compliance with MO procedures.
o Monitor supplier performance.
• Ensure competitive rates and services.
• Monitor and report on procurement performance including transporter performance:
o Provide booking forecasts.
o Analyse confirmed booking: GO, NOGO (further analysis required for the NOGO)
• Escalate/alert management and the HMO zone of any interesting / relevant market supplier information or any dysfunction.
• Ability to drive strategic objectives ensuring consistent performance throughout the Cluster.
• Any other delegated tasks deemed as reasonable as assigned by the reporting manager

Competencies required:

• Pro-active, aggressive, result oriented, competent leader and team player.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with excellent English proficiency.
• Ability to influence, negotiate and resolve conflicts on internal and external matters up to board level.
• Sound knowledge of the road transport business locally and internationally.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Matric
• Degree in Logistics or equivalent
• 5 years' relevant experience in freight forwarding covering import/export and
cross trade for air, road and sea cargo
• Experience in Pharmaceutical temperature control goods
• Proficiency in MS Office and transport management systems (TMS)
• Valid driver's licence
• Willingness to travel as needed to manage supplier relationships
