Mission Description
Job Purpose:
To plan, schedule and co-ordinate all maintenance work and resources required maintaining and enhancing equipment availability and efficiency, by the most cost-effective methods available, and to assist the Maintenance team with scheduling and resourcing.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
• Develop, coordinate, and maintain weekly, monthly, and long-term maintenance plans.
• Plan all preventive, predictive, corrective, and statutory maintenance activities.
• Ensure labour, tools, materials, and spare parts are identified and available before scheduled work commences.
• Prioritise work orders according to operational requirements, equipment criticality, and resource availability.
• Monitor maintenance backlogs and ensure follow-up work is planned within agreed timelines.
Work Management & Asset Data Control
• Review, manage, and optimise maintenance work orders within the CMMS system.
• Maintain accurate equipment histories, asset registers, component records, warranties, and statutory documentation.
• Ensure master data remains accurate, current, and aligned with company standards.
• Develop and maintain preventive maintenance strategies and schedules.
• Generate maintenance forecasts, labour requirements, resource plans, and management reports.
• Analyse maintenance trends, equipment performance, and historical data to improve planning effectiveness.
Spares & Resource Coordination
• Forecast and coordinate spare parts, repairable components, and critical stock requirements.
• Liaise with procurement, inventory, suppliers, and maintenance teams to ensure timely availability of materials and services.
• Monitor component repair cycles, warranty claims, and stock reservations.
• Review labour and resource requirements against planned workloads to ensure efficient maintenance execution.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
• Analyse equipment performance, maintenance costs, and KPIs to identify improvement opportunities.
• Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Continuously improve work packages, maintenance strategies, and planning processes.
• Monitor planned versus unplanned maintenance performance and support equipment availability targets.
Stakeholder & Team Support
• Work closely with maintenance supervisors, technical teams, inventory, and operational departments.
• Facilitate planning meetings and communicate maintenance priorities effectively.
• Support team development through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
Safety, Health, Environment & Quality
• Ensure all maintenance plans comply with HSE requirements, company policies, and statutory regulations.
• Incorporate safety requirements, permits, risk assessments, and task controls.
Profile
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12
• National Trade Certificate (N3) in Diesel Mechanics, Auto Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• National Diploma (N6) or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Management, Asset Management, or related field will be advantageous.
• Formal training in Maintenance Planning, Reliability, Asset Management, or Project Planning will be an added advantage.
• Computer literacy with advanced knowledge of CMMS systems (Maximo, Infor, SAP PM, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Code B Driver's Licence.
• Valid Certificate of Conduct.
Experience
• Minimum 5-8 years' experience in maintenance planning, maintenance supervision, or heavy equipment maintenance environment.
• Proven experience working with CMMS systems, maintenance scheduling, and work-order management.
• Experience in fleet, heavy mobile equipment (HME), trucks, material handling equipment, or industrial maintenance operations.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance planning principles, preventive maintenance programs, reliability improvement, and asset management practices.
• Experience in maintenance reporting, KPI analysis, budgeting support, and resource forecasting.
• Demonstrated experience in spare parts planning, inventory coordination, and contractor management.
• Exposure to Root Cause Analysis (RCA), reliability methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience with Scania, Shacman, forklifts, reach stackers, mobile cranes, or container handling equipment will be advantageous.
