Job description

Mission Description                      

To support the implementation and monitoring of security policies and procedures within port and terminal operations. The Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding personnel, cargo, equipment, and company assets, ensuring compliance with maritime security regulations, the ISPS-Code, and company policies while preventing security threats and operational disruptions.

- RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Ensure all duties are performed in accordance with departmental procedures and company policies.
- Comply with applicable maritime security regulations, statutory requirements, and the ISPS-Code.
- Adhere to Africa Global Logistics (AGL) principles, values, and Code of Conduct.
- Observe all company Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental procedures.
- Report security threats, incidents, hazards, and breaches in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and participate in security training, drills, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by Management.

 

Profile

Job Function:
Security Operations and Access Control
• Monitor and enforce security policies and procedures across terminal operations.
• Conduct regular security patrols and inspections of gates, yards, warehouses, and restricted areas.
• Monitor the movement of personnel, vehicles, visitors, and cargo to prevent unauthorized access, theft, and security breaches.
• Ensure compliance with access control procedures, the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP), and ISPS Code requirements.
• Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and ensure adequate security coverage of critical operational areas.
Security Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation
• Conduct security risk assessments and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities.
• Investigate security incidents, theft, unauthorized access, and cargo-related irregularities.
• Prepare incident reports, recommend corrective actions, and monitor their implementation.
• Report serious security incidents promptly to Management.
Security Compliance and Reporting
• Ensure compliance with applicable maritime security regulations and company policies.
• Assist with security audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
• Maintain accurate security records, incident registers, and relevant documentation.
• Prepare periodic security reports and recommend improvements to security operations.
Security Personnel Coordination
• Monitor the performance and conduct of security personnel assigned to terminal operations.
• Ensure security personnel understand and comply with their assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Coordinate with internal departments and contracted security providers to maintain effective security coverage.
Training and Emergency Preparedness
• Support security awareness training, drills, and emergency response exercises.
• Ensure security personnel are familiar with emergency procedures and security protocols.
• Assist in identifying training needs and improving security preparedness.
Documentation and Communication
• Maintain and update security records, procedures, and reports within the Document Management System (DMS).
• Ensure confidentiality of sensitive security information.
• Liaise with relevant departments, port authorities, and security agencies on security-related matters when authorized.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Diploma or bachelor's degree in security management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years
