Mission description
Africa Global Logistics Uganda is seeking 28 experienced and reliable Heavy Goods Truck Drivers to transport containerized cargo from one location to another. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of cargo, as well as the maintenance and upkeep of their vehicle and equipment.
MAIN MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES DETAILS:
• Transport containerized cargo to and from designated locations.
• Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently.
• Ensure all cargo is properly secured and protected during transport
• Handle and stack containerized cargo properly.
• Maintain accessibility within container stacks.
• Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of cargo and delivery details.
• Inspect and maintain vehicle and equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
• Follow designated routes and schedules provided by management.
• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with other drivers and clients.
• Immediately alert relevant personnel of any detected anomalies or malfunctions in allocated equipment.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects (50-100lbs)
• Must be able to spend extended periods of time sitting, driving and operating equipment
• Ability to work in different weather conditions
• Great vision, hearing, and a high level of alertness.
Physical Demands:
The job demands the ability to sit for prolonged periods while driving. The driver must be able to lift and carry heavy materials when loading and unloading the truck. The driver must be able to climb in and out of the truck repeatedly and must have the ability to bend, stoop, and twist as necessary to load and unload cargo. The job requires good vision, hearing, and a high level of alertness to ensure safe operations.
Work Environment:
The heavy truck driver works long hours and may be required to work overnight, weekends, and holidays. The driver is exposed to various environmental conditions, including extreme weather conditions, fumes, and vibrations caused by the truck on the road. The driver must be able to work in a noisy environment and must follow safety regulations to avoid accidents. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be always worn.
Profile
Qualifications:
• Ordinary Certificate of Educations (s4).
• Valid commercial driver's license (CE)
• Minimum of 3 years' experience driving a heavy truck equipment transporting containerized cargo
• Knowledgeable in operating heavy trucks equipment such as containerized cargo trucks (45 ft. and 50 ft.), flatbed trucks, reefers and chassis
• Knowledgeable in weight distribution, vehicle maintenance, and road safety regulations
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements
• Ability to navigate GPS, maps, and other required devices
• Ability to work independently, show initiative and adaptability
• Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
• Reliable, dependable and punctual
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision
• Formal knowledge of repairing, maintaining lifting equipment and heavy machines is an added advantage.
