Mission Description
Job Purpose:
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) / Generalist is responsible for aligning people strategies with business objectives within designated business units. This role acts as a trusted advisor to management and employees, providing expertise in employee relations, talent management, and compliance while ensuring HR initiatives support organizational growth. The HR Business Partner (HRBP) / Generalist develops a deep understanding of the business unit's goals, workforce needs, and culture to enable effective decision-making and drive a high-performance environment.
Job Function:
Strategic HR Partnering
• Collaborate with business leaders to align HR strategies with operational goals.
• Partner with line managers to drive workforce planning, talent development, and performance management initiatives.
• Support organizational change efforts, including S189 and S197 processes, ensuring compliance and minimizing risk.
• Analyze HR data (turnover, absenteeism, engagement surveys) to identify trends and recommend actions.
Employee Relations & Compliance
• Act as the first point of contact for employee relations matters, offering guidance on grievances, disciplinaries, incapacity, and performance management.
• Chair disciplinary and grievance hearings, ensuring compliance with labour legislation and company policies.
• Maintain positive relationships with trade unions and represent the company at CCMA, NBCRFLI, and Labour Department matters.
• Conduct job grading and gap analyses per NBCRFLI agreements.
• Provide training and coaching to managers on labour relations and compliance requirements.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
• Partner with the recruitment team to ensure fair, efficient hiring processes that support the Employment Equity plan.
• Collaborate with managers to define job requirements and participate in interviews where needed.
• Ensure smooth onboarding for new employees through participation in induction sessions.
Profile
Employee Engagement & Development
• Conduct entrance and exit interviews, analyzing feedback and recommending retention strategies.
• Identify skills gaps and support the implementation of learning and development initiatives.
• Promote employee engagement through communication, recognition programs, and participation in company events.
HR Administration & Systems
• Manage HR documentation, records, and employee files to ensure compliance with POPIA and company policy.
• Prepare HR reports and maintain accurate data for audits, compliance checks, and management review.
• Oversee the processing of employment contracts, amendments, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
• Ensure timely administration of employee benefits, leave, and medical aid updates.
• Manage the administration of Time and Attendance systems (Kronos) and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with payroll on HR-related inputs (new hires, terminations, deductions, overtime approvals).
• Support HR audits, surveys, and compliance initiatives by gathering data and implementing action plans.
• Respond promptly to HR-related queries from employees and managers, ensuring clear communication.
• Liaise with labour brokers and temporary employment service providers to ensure accurate recordkeeping and compliance.
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements & Core Competencies:
• Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5+ years' experience in HR generalist or HRBP role, preferably in a unionized environment.
• Experience representing an organization at CCMA/Bargaining Council level is essential.
