Mission Description
The Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Department at AGL is at the heart of our logistics operations, ensuring the smooth movement of goods into and out of Uganda. With a focus on precision, compliance, and efficiency, the department manages both sea freight and airfreight operations that power trade and business growth.
As the Clearing and Forwarding Manager, you will spearhead the strategic management of a diverse client portfolio—driving sustainable growth, maximizing profitability, and delivering exceptional service. You will oversee end-to-end freight processes, enhance operational efficiency, maintain regulatory compliance, and uphold the highest standards of client satisfaction.
In this role, you will provide strategic oversight of our logistics operations, ensuring seamless service delivery across sea and air freight channels. Working closely with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and clients, you will champion cost-effective and compliant solutions while strengthening long-term client relationships.
Key Areas of Focus:
• Sea freight Import: Streamline processes for timely and compliant clearance of goods.
• Sea freight Export: Optimize operations to consistently meet customer needs while maintaining regulatory compliance.
• Airfreight: Manage expedited shipments with a focus on efficiency, cost control, and service excellence.
At AGL, our C&F team works hand in hand with internal colleagues and external partners including clients, transporters, subcontractors, and government agencies to provide timely, reliable, and cost-effective logistics solutions. This collaboration supports our commitment to operational excellence and customer success.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team, setting performance goals and developing staff capabilities.
Streamline and oversee import/export processes to ensure timely, compliant clearance and delivery of goods.
Develop and update SOPs in collaboration with QHSE to maintain quality and compliance.
Manage client portfolios, ensuring service quality, adherence to contracts, and profitability.
Collaborate with Sales and Finance on quotations, pricing, and credit control.
Oversee subcontractor relationships, monitoring performance and service quality.
Drive achievement of departmental budget targets and quality KPIs.
Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
Profile
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, or Procurement.
Minimum 10 years' experience in clearing and forwarding, with 5+ years in a managerial role.
Strong knowledge of sea freight and airfreight operations, customs compliance, and client portfolio management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with logistics software (PowerBI, TMS, Way, or similar) preferred.
Proven leadership, people management, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
