Mission Description                      

The General Manager will drive the overall commercial success of BALSA by developing and executing strategic and operational plans that deliver sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion, with a particular focus on acquiring and managing Government and Parastatal business. This role combines strategic leadership, operational oversight, and commercial accountability to ensure the organisation achieves its financial and business objectives.

Job Function:
Leadership and Management
• Provide strategic and commercial direction for the BALSA team, ensuring alignment with business objectives and revenue targets.
• Identify organisational development needs and implement initiatives to enhance commercial performance.
• Lead change management initiatives with a focus on driving growth and operational efficiency.


Operations:
• Oversee all operational functions, ensuring processes, systems, and resources are optimised to support commercial objectives.
• Review and refine organisational structure to drive operational and financial performance.
• Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders to maximise operational and commercial outcomes.
• Ensure effective utilisation of systems and technology to enhance efficiency and revenue generation.


Commercial and Financial:
• Take full ownership of revenue growth, profitability, and financial sustainability of the business.
• Drive new business acquisition and expansion of the existing client base.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders to create long-term opportunities.
• Collaborate with the sales team to identify and secure new business opportunities.
• Implement strict financial planning, monitoring, and controls to manage costs, risks, and maximise profitability.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and insightful reporting, including statistical, financial, budgetary, and forecast submissions.
• Prepare and submit GM forecasts in line with strategic and commercial priorities.


Culture and Governance:
• Maintain BALSA's business culture and ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and governance standards.
• Address internal and external conflicts effectively to protect commercial interests.
• Ensure operational disciplines are in place to support sustainable business performance.
• Perform additional tasks and projects as reasonably assigned by the reporting manager.

 

Profile

Minimum Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, Commerce, Finance, or a related field. MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is highly advantageous.
• Experience:
o Proven experience in a senior management or General Manager role with full P&L responsibility.
o Demonstrated track record of achieving revenue growth, profitability, and business expansion, preferably within Government, Parastatal, or B2B sectors.
o Experience in strategic planning, operational management, and stakeholder engagement.

Skills and Competencies:
• Strong commercial acumen and financial literacy, with the ability to interpret and act on financial and operational reports.
• Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire teams to achieve commercial objectives.
• Excellent negotiation, relationship-building, and client management skills.
• Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Other Requirements:
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and business ethics.
• Ability to operate under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• Willingness to travel as required for business development and stakeholder engagement.
