Mission Description
Job Purpose:
The Gate Checker is responsible for the accurate physical inspection of all equipment as it moves in or out of the terminal gate facility.
Gate Checkers must be provided with adequate systems training and sufficient technology resources to meet the objectives as described in the Service Desk standard operating procedures.
• Achieve average gross moves per quay crane of 37 GMPH.
• Achieve the highest possible berth production, which must at a minimum meet the targets as established in the terminal/shipping line contracts.
• Achieve average 30-minute truck turn-round time
Main Objectives
• Perform physical inspection of all equipment as it enters or exits the facility.
• Verify and/or update equipment numbers in operating system. Ensure that the unit number reflected in the system is exactly equal to the number that is physically passing through the gate
• Record all relevant information as appropriate including:
o equipment number
o placards attached on all four sides…yes or no
o running reefer…yes or no
o reefer temperature settings
o reefer temperature readings
o out of gauge dimensions
o all attached seal numbers
o genset number
o fuel level in genset
o tractor license plate number
o damage / cleanliness
• Complete pending transactions and provide trucking vendor with a printed Container Interchange Report.

Skills Required
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines as defined by the service desk supervisor. Willing to work long hours in time of need to support other teammates. Has a high standard of work ethic, ensuring 100% accuracy.
• Responds to supervisor's needs; keep supervisor informed.
• Act in a way that leads to meeting customers' requirements; ensures contributions to advance customers goals; focuses on best practices and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrates knowledge of technical and functional aspects of work. General knowledge on the flow of cargo through a port facility. Ability to use all relevant terminal operating systems including hand held data devices.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Certification in safety or hazardous materials handling may be required depending on the nature of the facility.
• Training in gate operations or terminal logistics is a plus but not mandatory.
• A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a logistics, warehousing, or transportation-related environment is preferred.
• Experience with inventory control, equipment handling, or gate operations is an asset.
• Familiarity with terminal operations or similar environments is advantageous.
