Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
To carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance on trucks and handling equipment for AGL Namibia and entities. Attend to breakdowns outside town when required. Guides apprentices (when assigned) on safe and correct work methods.

1. Tire Installation, Removal & Balancing
Conduct risk assessments and safely support equipment using appropriate jacks and stands before tire removal.
Remove, refit, mount and demount tires on heavy vehicles and equipment, both in the workshop and in the field.
Perform precision wheel balancing using electronic balancing equipment and apply corrective weights as required.
Install wheel assemblies and tighten fasteners using calibrated torque tools according to manufacturer specifications.
2. Tire Inspection & Failure Analysis
Inspect tires for tread wear, uneven wear patterns, structural damage, cracks, separations, and foreign object penetration.
Measure and record tread depth and tire condition in the relevant maintenance system.
Check and adjust tire pressures according to operating conditions, load requirements, and fleet standards.
Assess tire failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
3. Tire Repair & Maintenance
Respond to breakdowns and service call-outs to replace or repair tires on-site.
Perform puncture repairs and other approved tire repairs in accordance with industry standards.
Carry out scheduled tire rotations and ensure correct matching of dual tires to maximise tire life and equipment reliability.
Identify tires suitable for regrooving or retreading and prepare them in line with safety requirements.
Evaluate operational risks, escalate concerns to the Supervisor, and provide feedback on work completed.
4. Housekeeping & Environmental Compliance
Prepare work areas and equipment to ensure safe working conditions before commencing work.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment by removing waste, scrap and unused materials after each task.
Store tools and equipment correctly after use.
Dispose of waste materials and unserviceable tires in accordance with company and environmental procedures.
5. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
Adhere to all safety procedures when lifting equipment and handling heavy vehicle tires.
Use approved inflation cages and other safety devices during tire inflation activities.
Maintain and care for tools, equipment and workshop machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Comply with company SHE standards and environmental requirements at all times.
6. General Duties
Guide and support Apprentices and Engineering Assistants in performing tasks safely and correctly.
Perform basic rigging activities within authorised limits.
Participate in standby and after-hours support when required.
Accurately record parts, labour and maintenance activities in the CMMS.
Work effectively in demanding workshop and field environments while maintaining high standards of workmanship, accuracy and quality.

 

Profile

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Pass) is essential
- (N3) National Trade Certificate in Fitting/Diesel Mech/Millwright is an added advantage
- Code B/BE driver's license.
- Valid police certificate of conduct
- A minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience
- Good communication skills, excellent health and safety knowledge and awareness
- Ability to work effectively independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in tyre alignment and balancing.
- Any formal training on tyre repair, maintenance and management an added advantage.
- Must be computer literate.
