Mission Description                      

Job Purpose
To support the organisation's Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) compliance by assisting with workplace inspections, hazard identification, incident reporting, and safety monitoring. The role supports the implementation and maintenance of SHE systems and ensures employees adhere to safe work practices and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workplace Safety Monitoring
• Conduct routine workplace inspections to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
• Monitor compliance with company safety procedures and safe work practices.
• Report safety concerns and risks to management.
• Assist with follow-up actions to ensure corrective measures are implemented.
2. Risk Assessment Support
• Assist management in conducting hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Support the review and updating of risk assessments when required.
• Monitor the implementation of control measures identified during risk assessments
3. Incident Reporting and Investigation Support
• Assist with the reporting and recording of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
• Support incident investigations by gathering information and documentation.
• Monitor implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
4. Compliance and Legal Support
• Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable safety legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Support the maintenance of SHE documentation and records.
• Ensure required safety notices, signage, and registers are maintained
5. Safety Inspections and Audits
• Assist with internal safety inspections and external safety audits.
• Compile inspection reports and track corrective actions.
• Monitor safety compliance across operational areas.

6. Safety Communication and Awareness
• Promote safety awareness among employees.
• Assist in conducting toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Encourage employees to report hazards and unsafe conditions.
7. Emergency Preparedness
• Assist in coordinating emergency procedures and evacuation drills.
• Ensure emergency equipment is accessible and inspected.
• Support emergency response planning.
8. SHE Administration and Record Keeping
• Maintain records relating to incidents, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Support the preparation of SHE reports for management.
• Maintain registers for PPE, inspections, and safety activities.

 

Profile


Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• SHE Representative or Safety training certificate
• Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• SAMTRAC certification would be considered an added advantage
• Emergency response training, First Aid, Fire Fighting and Evacuation Planning.
• 2–3 years experience in a safety or operational environment
• Knowledge and prior experience within a Port Environment preferred.
