MISSION
The Africa IT Operational Security Manager is responsible for the day-to-day planning, management, and oversight of IT Operational Security across Africa. The role focuses on scaling security operations, improving performance, and ensuring the effectiveness and maturity of security programs in line with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.

The position leads and coordinates the Security Operations Center (SOC), including security analysts, security engineers, and operational security managers. The manager ensures the proper execution of security monitoring, incident detection, investigation, response, and crisis management processes, while maintaining strong coordination with internal and external CERT/CSIRT teams, particularly during major incidents.

Key responsibilities include defining and executing the SOC strategy, ensuring technical consistency of security controls, and deploying, operating, and continuously improving SOC tools and platforms (SIEM, EDR, NDR, monitoring and orchestration tools). The role drives proactive monitoring, reporting, and data-driven decision-making through security metrics and dashboards, using tools such as Splunk, CrowdStrike, and Vectra.

The manager oversees vulnerability management, incident response, escalation processes, on-call and notification frameworks, and major transition plans related to system upgrades or patches. They identify opportunities to enhance security automation and orchestration capabilities and evaluate the effectiveness of deployed solutions, leading corrective action plans when necessary.

In addition, the role provides security guidance and support to the business, acts as an escalation point between technical and operational teams, contributes to global detection strategies, and promotes best practices in security architecture and operational models. The manager also supports the development and delivery of security awareness and training programs and fosters collaboration and intelligence sharing with other security teams to improve threat detection and response capabilities across the organization.

The ideal candidate holds a degree or diploma in IT or a related field, with professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, ITIL Foundation, or equivalent information security qualifications considered a strong advantage. Knowledge of ISO 27001, ISO 27002, and ISO 27005 standards is desirable.

The role requires 10–15 years of broad IT experience, covering areas such as infrastructure, systems, networking, applications, project management, regulatory compliance, risk management, and training, including at least 5 years in an IT security-focused role and experience in managed or operational security environments. Prior involvement in IT project management is a plus.

Strong hands-on expertise in Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and security operations is expected, including log analysis, network flows, event correlation, security monitoring, intrusion and attack techniques, and vulnerability management. Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and standards (NIST, CIS benchmarks, OSI model) and experience with compliance and privacy regulations (PCI, GDPR, CCPA, SOX) are required. Proven experience in incident response and handling sensitive and confidential information is essential.

From a skills perspective, the candidate demonstrates strong leadership and managerial capabilities, with the ability to mentor teams, balance workloads, and drive productivity in complex environments.
