Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
To carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance on trucks and handling equipment for AGL Namibia and entities. Attend to breakdowns outside town when required. Guides apprentices (when assigned) on safe and correct work methods.

Job Function:

1. Preventative Maintenance
- Advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Carry out inspections on machines and trucks for wear, structural damage and or leaks as per planned work orders
- Observe, listen and enquire with equipment operators to identify signs of any irregular sounds, non-compliance or abnormalities on equipment and how equipment is functioning
- Gather, through interacting and questioning the operator and visual inspection, as much information as possible about the noticeable symptoms
- Record information about the issues on the job card
- Report all findings to his/her supervisor to prepare maintenance planning
- Conduct schedule services: change engine, transmission and differential oil as well as coolant mixture and ensure that right oil and coolant quantity is filled
- Replace fuel and air filters, belts, hoses and brake pads/shoes
2. Corrective Maintenance
- Rebuild engines: Disassemble, repair, and reassemble and sub-assemblies.
- Fix and rebuild drivetrains: Repair or replace transmissions, torque converters, clutches, differentials, and drive shafts.
- Service chassis systems: Replace steering components, suspension parts, and heavy-duty braking systems (air and hydraulic).
3. Breakdown Maintenance
- Respond to service call-out from an equipment/truck operator or supervisors
- Carry out an on-site assessment of the situation and condition of the faulty equipment or truck, making enquiries with the operator about symptoms and possible causes or events just before the breakdown
- Determine how much risk is involved in current situation, based on experience and knowledge from past situations, and advises Supervisor of findings
- Notify Supervisor if uncertain of the level of risk in the observed situation, who will advise next steps depending on “impact”
- Report orally to Supervisor next morning on what was found and done (Where applicable)
4. General Housekeeping
- Prepare and clean an area or equipment for safe work before every job starts
- Remove all scrap, waste materials or dirt in the vicinity of the work site afterwards
- Pack away all tools in toolbox and or returns to special tools store
- Place disposable materials in correct bins as per environmental management guidelines for Engineering Workshop, transporting them either by LDV or Forklift
- Clean work area of the Engineering Workshop and packs away all unused tools, equipment and gear in designated places of safety

 

Profile

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Pass) is essential
- (N3) National Trade Certificate in Diesel mechanics
- Code CE driver's license.
- Valid police certificate of conduct
- A minimum of six (6) years of relevant post-trade test work experience
- Good communication skills, excellent health and safety knowledge and awareness
- Ability to work effectively independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Three (3) years' experience working on Scania and shacman trucks maintenance is an advantage
- Experience on maintaining handling equipment like mobile cranes, reach stackers, forklifts and empty container handlers is an added advantage.
