Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
To safely and efficiently operate a 90-ton mobile crane to lift, move, position, and place heavy loads in accordance with lifting plans, safety regulations, and operational requirements. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all lifting operations are conducted safely, equipment is maintained in good working order, and company and client standards are adhered to at all times.

 

Profile

Job Function:
1. Crane Operations:
• Operate a 90-ton mobile crane safely and efficiently to perform lifting and positioning of heavy equipment, machinery, containers, structural steel, and other loads.
• Conduct lifts in accordance with approved lifting plans and risk assessments.
• Ensure loads are correctly rigged and balanced before lifting.
• Position the crane correctly to maintain stability and safe operating limits.
• Monitor crane load indicators and operate within the manufacturer's specified load charts.
• Perform tandem lifts where authorised and under approved lifting procedures.

2. Safety and Compliance:
• Comply with all company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) procedures.
• Perform pre-operational inspections and complete daily crane checklists.
• Ensure outriggers, stabilisers and ground conditions are suitable before commencing operations.
• Stop operations immediately if unsafe conditions exist.
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Report hazards, incidents, equipment defects and near misses promptly.
• Wear and maintain the required PPE.

3. Equipment Care
• Perform daily inspections of:
• Crane structure, Hydraulic systems, Wire ropes, Hooks and lifting equipment, Tyres, Outriggers, Braking systems, Lights and warning devices
• Maintain cleanliness of the crane.
• Report maintenance requirements immediately.
• Assist maintenance personnel during servicing when required.

4. Communication & Documentation
• Maintain clear communication with supervisor, operations and clients.
• Follow recognised hand signals and radio communication protocols.
• Ensure lifting instructions are fully understood before commencing work.
• Ensure daily inspections checklists, defect reports, timesheets etc are recorded.

Minimum qualifications
• Grade 12 (preferred).
• Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver's Licence (Code CE or equivalent).
• Valid Mobile Crane Operator Certificate (90-ton capacity or higher).
• Recognised Competency Certificate for Mobile Crane Operations.
• First Aid Certificate (advantageous).
• Defensive Driving Certificate (advantageous).
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in operating mobile cranes of a 90-ton capacity or larger.
• Experience in: Heavy Lifting operations, Port operations, Logistics
• Proven experience working with lifting plans and load charts
