Mission Description
Job Purpose
The Control Room Operator is responsible for real-time tracking, monitoring, and control of all AGL Namibia trucks in transit to ensure full compliance with AGL Namibia Transit SOPs, QHSE standards, and applicable National Road Regulations, with particular focus on high-risk and cross-border operations.
Key Job Functions
1. Driver QHSE and Security Compliance
• Monitor fleet movement and driver behaviour, including speed violations, harsh braking, and harsh acceleration.
• Monitor driver and convoy compliance with approved convoy rules, routes, and operating procedures.
• Ensure adherence to mandatory rest break and fatigue management protocols.
• Identify, report, and escalate convoy breakaways, unauthorised route deviations, and stops in high-risk zones.
• Immediately query and escalate any unauthorised vehicle movement during prohibited driving hours.
2. Tracking and Asset Management
• Maintain real-time GPS surveillance of the entire AGL Namibia fleet operating across Zambia, DRC, and South Africa.
• Coordinate with the Operations Planning team to obtain discretion or approval for controlled movement during prohibited driving hours where safety requires.
• Liaise with external security service providers to activate support in unsafe zones and during high-risk convoys.
• Provide real-time traffic updates, route guidance, and alternative routing recommendations to drivers.
• Maintain constant communication with drivers during civil unrest, riots, or emergency situations, providing safety and security guidance.
3. Compliance and Incident Reporting
• Compile and submit daily operational reports covering night driving, security incidents, compliance breaches, and corrective actions taken in line with SOPs.
• Ensure driver compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Escalate repeated or serious non-compliance to the HRBP and/or Operations Supervisor, with factual data and supporting evidence.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, deviations, and interventions for audit and investigation purposes.
4. Fleet Performance Monitoring and Reporting
• Support the monitoring of fleet performance by analysing GPS, telematics, and operational data.
• Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly fleet performance reports, including trends related to:
o Driver behaviour and safety metrics
o Route adherence and transit times
o Night driving and rest break compliance
o Security incidents and risk exposure
• Identify recurring operational or compliance risks and flag patterns for management review.
• Provide data-driven insights to Operations and HR to support performance management, coaching, and training interventions.
• Maintain accurate performance dashboards and reporting templates using Excel and tracking platforms.
Profile
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements & Core Competencies
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, Information Technology, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar control room, dispatch, or fleet monitoring role within a fast-paced trucking or logistics environment.
• Experience monitoring cross-border operations and high-value cargo is essential.
• High proficiency in GPS tracking platforms and strong Excel/reporting skills.
• Experience in driver supervision, training support, or transport operations is an added advantage.
