Job description

Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
To carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance on trucks and handling equipment for AGL Namibia and entities. Attend to breakdowns outside town when required. Guides apprentices (when assigned) on safe and correct work methods.
Job Function:

Preventative Maintenance

• Perform diagnostic testing using specialized scanning tools and ECU systems.
• Conduct electrical circuit testing using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and test equipment.
• Interpret OEM wiring schematics to identify faults and system failures.
• Inspect batteries, alternators, and charging systems.
• Gather information from operators regarding equipment performance and symptoms.
• Record findings accurately on job cards and report maintenance requirements.

Corrective Maintenance

• Repair and replace damaged wiring harnesses, connectors, fuse boxes, and electrical components.
• Service and overhaul alternators, starter motors, and ignition systems.
• Repair safety-critical systems including ABS, airbags (SRS), electronic stability control, and ADAS systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical comfort systems such as windows, wipers, climate control, and central locking.
• Install lighting systems, cameras, GPS tracking units, sensors, and other electrical accessories.
• Manage battery testing, charging, and inventory control using Intasect software.

Breakdown Maintenance

• Respond to emergency breakdowns and service call-outs, including work outside town when required.
• Diagnose faults on-site and assess associated risks.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Complete breakdown reports and provide feedback on repairs performed.

General Duties

• Maintain high housekeeping standards in the workshop and work areas.
• Supervise and guide apprentices and engineering assistants when assigned.
• Conduct road tests and equipment testing to verify repair quality.
• Record parts used, labor hours, and repair details in maintenance management systems.
• Participate in standby duties and provide after-hours support as required.
• Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and company standards.

 

Profile

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Pass) is essential
- (N3) National Trade Certificate in Automotive Electrician
- Code CE driver's license.
- Valid police certificate of conduct
- A minimum of six (6) years of relevant post-trade test work experience
- Good communication skills, excellent health and safety knowledge and awareness
- Ability to work effectively independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Three (3) years' experience working on Scania and shacman trucks maintenance is an advantage
- Experience on maintaining handling equipment like mobile cranes, reach stackers, forklifts and empty container handlers is an added advantage.
